Leopard Print is the New Leopard Print

I was flipping through Harper’s Bazaar Magazine and it said that leopard print was going to big for fall. I laughed out loud. When is leopard print ever not in style? I guess we can all be excited that leopard print will be available in more varieties with an extended variety of color options. Seriously, who stopped wearing leopard print? It wasn’t me!

Speaking of extended color varieties, when I found this tomato red leopard print dress at SimplyBe I didn’t have high expectations. I did not have low ones either but whatever expectation I had was exceeded because this dress is BOMB. First of all, it has pockets!! The fabric is amazing and wrinkle resistant which was perfect since I wore this dress to a function where there would be a lot of sitting and then standing up to take pictures.

Here are few leopard print options that I love for fall!!

Pink Tulip Club

This past weekend I attended the grand reopening of Pink Tulip Club in their newly renovated Old Montgomery location. I love boutique shopping.  It’s the perfect place to find items that you can’t find anywhere else and get personalized service. I got just that during my visit. I found this cute off the shoulder ombre maxi dress.  I can totally see this as the perfect piece for spring and summer. I can definitely see myself wearing this dress to an outdoor wedding or out for an al fresco evening cocktail. Continue reading Pink Tulip Club

Tis The Season to Slay (The #1 Rule To Werking the Holidays)

I’ve been waiting to wear holiday looks like some people have been waiting to put up their Christmas tree. The holiday season is here and I can’t wait to rock red lips and sparkling frocks as often as I possibly can. When I saw this dress from Fashion to Figure I knew it was meant to be! I keep an evening dress on deck during the holiday season so I don’t have to turn down a last-minute invitation to a holiday party.

A Dress on Deck is Better Than Stress on the Shore

My rule of thumb is that it better to anticipate something will happen than to expect nothing will be going on. As a woman of a certain size last minute shopping will make me want to cry in the dressing room. In-store options can be limited and quite frankly basic. If I am in the mood to wear something out of the box with an unexpected detail there are more options online. Online only options can be intimating but knowing your measurements (bust, waist, hip, inseam) is essential and read the customer reviews. People who have already purchased the items will let you know if an item runs small, is made poorly, or the item doesn’t live up to its expectations.

Brands are 100 times more interactive  on social media with consumers if your favorite retailer has a Facebook page or an Instagram account follow them. Their social media teams are normally great about answering questions about sizing and fit questions. If the retailer is not responsive online I wouldn’t purchase from a brand that isn’t, no customer interaction indicaition that they are selling a low quality product. Don’t be afraid of online shopping because a dress on deck is better than last minute shopping, I promise.

Fall Style with Cincinnati Premium Outlets

Who doesn’t love a day at the outlet mall? Knowing that you are bound to get an incredible deal on designer clothes is enough to make any woman overjoyed. When Cincinnati Premium Outlets invited the ladies of Thread and I out for an exclusive blogger event, I was thrilled.

Before You  Shop

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when outlet shopping because you have so many options. Before I go shopping at an outlet mall to update my seasonal wardrobe I put away all of my summer clothes . Then I consider the looks that I desire to recreate and get rid of items that have seen their fair share of wear and tear. I knew that I needed a new pair of black booties and these booties from Nine West are everything.

More Than A Dress

I also knew that I needed dresses that I can wear now and in the colder months that will pair well with boots. You won’t believe where I scored this amazing dress that fits so well! Dress Barn they have updated their line and have greatly improved the options in the plus. I would recommend sizing up in this dress if you are on the busty side or want extra arm room. Do they give noble peace prizes for shopping? Drop your preconceived notions and give Dress Barn a second chance.

Dress (Dress Barn), Boots (Nine West N/A online similar), Lip Color (NYX)

Now for the BEST part: Cincinnati Premium Outlets don’t want you to miss out on the deals, so one lucky Thread winner can win a $250 gift card to a Simon Outlet near them! Here’s how to enter:

1. Follow both @threadcincinnati and @cincinnati_po on Instagram (We’ll be checking to make sure!)

2. Post your favorite outlet or bargain find to Instagram using the hashtag#cincysimonspree and tagging @threadcincinnati and @cincinnati_po

3. Submit your photo by next Wednesday, November 2 at 11:59 PM EST to be considered.

It can be a flat lay of your favorite piece(s) or a picture of you modeling it!

Shop With Me | Cincinnati Consignment

If a tourist came to Cincinnati, Ohio and asked me what does my city have to offer my answer would be shopping and eating. If you are in the know, Cincinnati is an excellent place to secondhand shop (and eat). With so many local thrift stores and consignment shops, the odds are ever in your favor. One shop that I stop in regularly is Legacies in Hyde Park.

Legacies is a consignment shop that sells furniture, home goods, clothing, and accessories. I love the variety that I find in Legacies the furniture is always in good shape, and the jewelry selection is so unique. It’s the perfect place to shop when you’re looking for pieces that you won’t see anywhere else to give your home those extra personal touches. You can donate and shop at Legacies, and the proceeds benefit the Cancer Support Community.

Here a few of my thrifting rules:

See Past the Moment:

Look at the shape of the furniture before you judge the color or fabric. If you’re buying furniture on a budget and you see a couch with a great shape in a color you don’t like, consider getting a sofa cover or large throw blanket to bring the piece back into context for your space.  If you have money to spend, and you have found a piece that looks similar to a high-end piece that you have had your eye on but you dislike the upholstery buying the piece and having it reupholstered is the perfect option for a custom design.

Art on A Budget

Can’t afford to invest in art, it’s all good, the best place to find interesting pieces on a budget is at the consignment shop. I always manage to find a gem every time I’m in Legacies. When searching for art secondhand look for pieces that have quality framing and interesting details. I loved this framed fan it would look great in a bedroom or a bathroom.

Jewels on Display

I adore costume jewelry, and the best place to find interesting pieces is Legacies. With an extensive selection of jewelry, you will not be disappointed. Looking for a cool broach? Legacies also have an impressive assortment of interesting clip on earrings the endless selection will make it hard to leave a piece behind.

Traditional Pieces Within Reach

When you finally have a great dining room set adding, the finishing touches can make a big difference. A set of china can set you back a pretty penny. I have found beautiful China and traditional tea sets, and coffee services at Legacies for reasonable prices. I find that the entire set is sold at one price. Having the right serving ware makes entertaining a breeze.

Last But Not Least

If you love something don’t make the mistake of not purchasing an item, it will be gone when you come back. Trust me I know from experience.

Legacies Upscale Resale is located at 3854 Paxton Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45209

Online Shopping | How to Find Your Size

In a perfect world, my body fat would be placed evenly on my body. In this world, I carry the majority of my weight in my midsection. I don’t have the luck of having a tiny waist and proportionate hips.

This makes the plus size models online frustrating. These women don’t even appear to be plus size. How do I know what size to order? The size chart should be of some assistance, right? Not only is it hard to find clothes in the store, but ordering clothes online is like Russian roulette.

These are my “Beyond the Size Chart” tips:

Know your measurements

The first step in understanding the size chart is to know your measurements. If you don’t already, you should always have a tape measure on hand. You will need the circumference of your bust, waist, and hips. Be sure your measurements are taken at the largest point of your bust and hips. Your waist measurement should be taken at your “true waist”, which is the narrowest part of your torso. If you are on the hunt for pants, be sure have a friend help with your leg inseam.

For real size women, it is important to know you have a dominant measurement. No matter what the size chart says, always order according to the largest part of yourself. You can have an item taken in but you can never add more fabric. Off the rack items have a standard sizing rules; a regular inseam for pants is 32 inches, most dresses measure about 45-50 inches from back to bottom.

A few suggestions additional suggestions,  it’s good to know that if your leg inseam is longer than 32 inches you need pants with longer inseams 33 1/2-34 inches. The reverse would go for women with inseams shorter than 30-31 inches.

Ladies with short inseams check SimplyBe there pants run small. I found that even their regular inseam is 30-31 inches. Are you a long tall drink of water? Torrid is offering some of their selections in extra long. ASOS has a collection especially for tall women and a few plus size option in tall. Also, check out sites like Long Tall Sally and Long Elegant Legs.

Every Designer is a Cut From a Different Cloth…Literally!

Every brand is different, some will run small and some will run larger. A good rule of the thumb is the cheaper the clothes the smaller the fit.  Brands like Forever 21+, Charlotte Russe, and Wet Seal + are juniors plus which means they run a full size smaller. Straight sizing can also run large I have found that Old Navy runs very large.  More expensive brands with better fabric tend to run true to size in sportswear. Formal clothing runs small across the board I would recommend sizing up if you are unfamiliar with the brand.

Read the Reviews

I have a hard time buying anything that has not already been purchased and reviewed online. Some stores like ModCloth. Torrid, Forever 21, and IGIG have enabled the ability to add a picture in the review section.  Real clothes on real women score!!  Just be sure to check the reviews before you checkout. People tend to express their discontent quickly when an item runs small or is made from unforgiving fabric.

Eye and Buy

I do love online shopping but, I am not above checking out what is on the shelves. I love Torrid, Forever 21+, Nordstrom Rack,  and Ava & Viv for Target.  I can have an item on my wish list and see it in the store and be happy that I didn’t buy it. I can look online and test my hypothesis in store. Nothing will truly ever beat time spent in the dressing room, but a girl can try.

Doing Hard Time at Dressing Room Prison

Online shopping can be a cop out because you hate trying on clothes at the store. My advice to that is get over it! There is no way around it and besides isn’t returning an item more of a hassle.  Pick up your true standby pieces and a few wild cards and don’t get discouraged. Stop taking it personally when something doesn’t fit. There are times when I try on everything and nothing works. I accept that the universe doesn’t want me to have a new outfit. If you want the fit you’ve got to try it on.

In all honesty, there are no perfect fits here ladies. We are shopping off the rack. If you want a custom fit, you will want to consider seeking a tailor. Brands make clothes on a fit model who have measurements that sell. I hope these tips lead you to consistently finding clothes you love!

Dress; Torrid, Shoes; Michael Antonio(old), Flowers; H&M, Earring ;Charming Charlie (in store clearance)

I’m showing off my great online buy from Torrid. I love Torrid because the cut and the fit is consistent with my body type. What brands work best with you shape? Share your stories in the comments below.
